Description of Classes
Ballet: is a theatrical representation of a story, or an abstract idea, by means of dance or pantomimic action, usually accompanied by music. Ballet develops grace, control, and poise in a dancer as he or she works to achieve proper alignment and technique.
Tap: a form of dance wherein rhythmic sounds are created by the feet.
Jazz: a stylized form of theatrical dancing conceived in America, given birth by the established and varied techniques of dance (folk and classical) brought to us by our ancestors from every corner of the world, and influenced by the musical styles of each succeeding decade.
Acrobatics: the artistic use of bending, rotating, twisting, balancing, and stretching movements combined with tumbling, dance and music. These skills are usually are done in a slow controlled manner and employs the use of flexibility and counter balance.
Modern: with a ballet base, modern dance is new and experimental, not following traditional styles. It is a very grounded and ÒearthyÓ art-form that has many different techniques.
Lyrical: a combination of ballet, jazz, and modern dance wherein the performer tells the story through his or her movements and emotions.
Hip Hop: is a combination of street dancing, breakdancing, jazz, improv, stylized isolations to high energy music.
Stretch: a form of dance that works on lengthening and strengthening the muscles increasing the flexibility of the dancer.
"Pre" Classes: gives the young dancer the basics of dance in a fun and creative manner.
Creative Movement: a mixture of ballet, tap, jazz, tumbling and singing for the beginning dancer. It gives the preschool student a little taste of all of the dance forms.
Musical Theatre: combines singing, dancing, and acting for the student and helps prepare them for auditions in these areas.
